This is Brian Kao reporting from the Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans and this is our first blog post.
Our first announcement is our 2011 legislative agenda, which includes priorities on work-force development, health disparities in the APIA community, and the educational gap. Full details is listed on our Jan. 4th, 2011 Press Release: http://bit.ly/gindj0
Also, we would like to announce that the Council has three new staff members:
- Brian Kao is the new research analyst. Brian will be assisting with legislative affairs and conducting research to support the Council’s legislative positions.
- Pa Chia Yang is the new office manager and will oversee general office affairs and serve as the first point of contact for the Council.
- Saymoukda Vongsay is the Cultural Coordinator and will oversee funding from the 2008 Legacy Act to benefit Asian Pacific cultural initiatives in the state.
We are all excited to serve the people of Minnesota and please expect more initiatives from our office to better communicate and relay information between the capitol and community. We are planning on updating our website with web 2.0 features (blog, twitter, etc.) and to hire a 5th staff member that will oversee the communications portion of the office.
Also, Brian has a twitter feed that you can follow at @BJKao. You can follow his feed on various legislative updates and trends in the APIA community. The blog updates won’t be as frequent as we would like it to be until our 5th staff is hired, but you can follow Brian’s twitter for daily updates. Stay tuned.
