On behalf of the Office of Community Engagement for Health of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, I would like to share a new opportunity with you. The CTSI along with the Center for Health Equity and the Program in Health Disparities Research are launching a new initiative called the Community Research Institute (CRI) in October 2012.
The goal of the CRI is to enhance the capacity of community organization staff in conducting health research. Participants will develop their skills in relevant research methodologies, develop an understanding of appropriate resources available to assist them with carrying out health research, apply these skills and knowledge to a real-world project, and network with other community-based and university-based researchers.
The CRI is a 6-week series of workshops that include lecture-style instruction, small group activities, and networking opportunities. In addition to the workshops, Institute participants will have the chance to meet with university and community-based research consultants to discuss specific issues in community-engaged research. All participating organizations will also receive a $1,000 mini-grant for their participation in the program.
The CRI is geared specifically for leaders and staff from community-based organizations that are seeking to enhance their skills in research methodology (including evaluation) and use research to enhance their programming and service delivery. Institute participants need not have prior experience conducting research.
We are now accepting applications for participants in the Institute! There are a limited number of slots available. Organizations can send up to three people to participate in the Institute. Visit the CTSI website to learn more or apply.
Completed applications are due by September 14, 2012.
